Alfred Eales was borin in Cheadle Heath, Cheshire in February 1879. In
January 1891 the family sailed to Natal, South Africa. Alfred joined
the Durban Light Infantry and served in the Boer War and received the
QSA with clasps Transvaal and relief of Ladysmith (Colour Sergeant no.
76). In 1906 he served in the Bambata Rebellion (medal). In 1913 he was
appointed Regimental Sergeant Major and sailed with the regiment to
German South West Africa on2 January 1915. He remained RSM until 1926.
He died in Durban 13 December 1948.
Misisng the QSA and British War Medal. He was photographed in the
D.L.I. shooting team in 1910, wearing his QSA and Natal Medals.

Confirmed on roll. Andrew Cairnie
served with the 2nd Imperial Light Horse and Driscoll's Scouts during
the Boer War. A Medal Index card also exists for Pte Andrew Cairnie,
Army veterinary Corps, which also has Driscoll's Scouts" written at
top. He appears on a list of passengers from Matadi, Congo to Plymouth,
arriving 31 March 1916

Evening Star (30 May 1906) "The Government has
accepted the offer of the Transvaal York and Lancaster Association to
raise 150 fully-equipped men to take part in the operations against
Bambaata. Note: This was nothing to do with the York and Lancaster Regiment.
