Henry Charles Messenger was born in Gibraltar in 1859. In 1881 he was working inb Birmingham as gunsmith. He enlisted July 1882 into the Corps of Armourers. Promoted to Armourer Sergeant September 1882. Posted to the 1st Battalion Cameron Highlanders in May 1883 in Egypt. Served in the Nile Expedition and was wounded 20 December 1885 at Suakin from a "bursting of shell". Malta 1892; Gibraltar February 1895 (transferred to Ordnance Store Corps - Armourer's Section); UK August 1898 and South Africa February 1901 to April 1902. Army Long Service Medal awarded 1901. Entitled to Egypt Medal and clasp, Khedive's Star. Discharged September 1906.

William Bulmer enlisted September 1899, aged 14. Served in South Afirca. Went to France 23 August 1914 with the 2nd Battalion. Discharged 5 January 1917 with shrapnel wound to left calf. Came from Adams Place, Coleraine.

William Symes was born in London and enlisted November 1884, aged 18. Served with 1st Battalion. To Reserve November 1891. Recalled March 1900 to 2nd Battalion. South Africa April 1900 to August 1901. He is not entitled to the Wepener clasp. Discharged November 1901. He died in 1949 in Bath, Somerset.
Sold with two RAOB medals that belonged to his son, Frederick John Symes.

George Henry Harwood was boprn in Moreton in Marsh, Gloucestershire and enlisted January 1900, aged 21. South Africa February 1900 to June 1901. Discharged June 1901. Served with No.1 Volunteer Service Company, 2nd Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment. Cheltenham Chronicle 29 June 1901: "The I Company of the 2nd V.B. Gloucester Regiment have just presented four of their members who recently returned from South Africa with a Bensons Ludgate watch in recognition of their services to their country. The recipients were Privates F. Slatter, O. Mace, G.H. Harwood and P.G. Garrett. Each watch is engraved with a suitable inscription."

George Edward Eaton was born in Oxford and enlisted March 1894, aged 20. Malta September 1895, Hong Kong January 1897, Singapore January 1899, South Africa August 1900. UK November 1900. Malta November 1901. India September 1903. Discharged August 1907.

John Brady was born in Barrow-in-Furness and enlisted February 1888, aged 18. Served in India 1891-96; South Africa December 1899 to February 1901, when he was discharged. He has a long list of charges, mostly involving being drunk. Re-enlisted 20 August 1914 (Special Reserve). To France 4 January 1915. Wounded "Bullet wound L wrist" 14 March 1915. To UK 16 March 1915. "Amputation of Left forearm". Discharged 30 September 1915.

George Screen was born in Selkirk February 1902, aged 22. Served with 3rd Volunteer Service Company. Served in South Africa March 1902 to August 1902. Discharged August 1902. Re-enlisted into the K.O.S.B. and transferred to 14th Battalion Highland Light Infantry and was killed in action 24 April 1917 in the attack on Villers-Plouich. Listed on the Thiepval Memorial.

Ernest William Poole was born in Coleford, Gloucestershire and enlisted into the Devonshire Regiment in November 1891, aged 17. Served in the UK until discharged 1896 as a "dangerous lunatic" and "severe attacks of acute mania." This is probably why he went to South Africa where no one knew him. Enlisted into the 4th Battalion Railway Pioneer Regiment, Mounted Troop 12 April 1902, aged 28. His profession was clerk. Discharged 15 July 1902. Clasps confirmed on roll.

Frederick White was from King's Stanley, Gloucestershire and enlisted February 1889, aged 20. Served with 2nd Battalion (medal engraved). India 1892-94; UK 94-99; South Africa Janaury 1900 to February 1902. Discharged February 1902. Died 3 December 1940. Entitled to King's South Africa Medal.

Albert James Warren was from Bristol and enlisted January 1893, aged 18. 1st Battalion. Malta 1893-95; Egypt 95-97; India 97-99; South Africa September 99 to August 1900; Ceylon 00-01. Discharged September 1901. Died 29 January 1942.

Michael Kirkwood was born in Nottingham and enlisted June 1898, aged 18. His mother, Mary, was living in Dunbarton. Served in South Africa January 1900 to October 1901. Discharged medically unfit December 1901. Also entitled to South Africa 1901 clasp.

Arthur Smith was born in London. He enlisted in the Medical Staff Corps March 1892. To Reserve March 95. Re-called October 1899. South Africa November 99 to July 1900. Then again March 1901 to September 1902. To Reserve June 1903. Re-called September 1914. Promoted to Sergeant. Discharged November 1918. Entitled to BWM, VM and SWB. Died 7 December 1952, aged 77.

Henry Chambers was born in Tewkesbury and enlisted into the 4th Militia Battalion in September 1895. Embodied January 1900. Served in St. Helena, guarding Boer prisoners. Returned to UK July 1901 and disembodied September 1901.

Ernest Albert Britnell was born in Oxford and enlisted March 1901 into the Metropolitan Mounted Rifles, Imperial Yeomanry, aged 24. Served in South Africa April 1901 to December 1901. Discharged January 1902, "medically unfit". Medal was issued with clasps Cape Colony, Orange Free State and Transvaal. Medal has some marks on it.

Robert Card was born March 1881 and enlisted into the 17th Lancers in December 1889. Served in South Africa. Transferred to the Reserve 1904 and became a Postman in York. Re-enlisted 1911. Went to France 15 August 1914. Transferred to Army Veterinary Corps April 1915. Awarded MSM London Gazette 16 October 1919 "for service rendered with the Armies in France and Flnders." Served with 26th Mobile Veterinary Section. Retired from the Post Office in 1939: "discharged his duties with diligence and fidelity.... he is recommended for the award of the Imperial Service Medal." He died in 1957.

Edgar Mourilyan Wagon was born in Aylesford, Kent and enlisted July 1890, aged 19. Served in Malta, Hong Kong, Gibraltar, South Africa. Trade: Superior Wheeler. Qualified at School of Musketry, Hythe 1906. Long Service Medal awarded 1908. Discharged July 1911 as Company Sergeant Major. He died in Sunnyside Mental Hospital, Riccarton, New Zealand 31 August 1940.
