Cyril Lawford Millard served with the Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers. Original letter forwarding his three medals.
Two original booklets written by Cyril:
The Campaign in North West Europe, the story of the 146 Infantry Brigade Workshops, REME, 49 (WR) Infantry Division. (7 pages)
"The Devil in Me": Poetry and impressions of vivid days and events when the world went mad." 29 pages. The book contains poems with brief descriptions of why he wrote them. "Sitting in a slit trench watching the mighty armada of planes flowing overhead I wondered what those grim faced young men, up their in the night sky, must have been thinking.. I see a city laying 'neath my wings, All brightly plumaged crimson in the night..." He ends his book "Thank you for bearing with me to the bitter end. I enjoyed writing this book, it got something out of my system thats been clogging up my heart and brain ever since I saw the body of the first man I killed."
Also a couple of booklets for his service with the Control Commission for Germany after the war.
Also a letter from the family stating that Cyril was born 12 June 1923 in the Royal Navy Maternity Home in Portsmouth. He was a junior journalist with a newspaper and joined REME during the war. After the war he stationed in Werdohl with the Control Commission. There he met his future wife, Frieda Mohr. They settled in London where Cyril became a taxi driver. He died in Margate, Kent 2 May 1987.

These mounted for wear. Photo showing him in uniform with medal ribbons. Original certificate of discharge. Lawford James Millard was born in Berkely, Gloucestershire 21 December 1889 and was a footman when he joined the Royal Navy 18 February 1911 as an Officer's Steward. Served on the Prince of Wales 1911-12, King Edward VII 1912-13. He served on HMS Inflexible 13 April 1915 to 30 November 1916, Lion December 1916 to 16 August 1917. Later served on Malabar, Champion, Restless, etc. He was pensioned 4 July 1934. He returned 4 October 1938 and was demobilised4 October 1938. He  rejoined 31 July 1939 and served at shore stations throughout the war.
