Anthony James Crease was born in Peebles, Scotland in 1946 and joined
the army aged 16, learning to play the bagpipes. He served with the
Royal Scots Greys, eventually becoming Pipe Major. When the regiment
became the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, he had a recording of the band
playing Amazing Grace released as a single. It topped the charts in the
UK and became a world-wide hit.
